Meet the Director

Katherine Hidalgo Pierce is Choral Director at Westfield High School in Chantilly, VA.  She directs four traditional choirs (Chamber Singers, Bel Canto, Troubadours and Chorale), a vocal a cappella group (GoldTones), and directs and choreographs SoundWaves Show Choir. Mrs. Pierce has also teaches AP Music Theory, and serves as the sponsor of Tri-M Music Honor Society.

Prior to coming to Westfield, Mrs. Pierce taught at several schools in Arlington County, teaching elementary band, Pre-K music with an emphasis on teaching music to children with special needs, choral music, and music appreciation. At Swanson Middle School, Mrs. Pierce worked to grow the choral program, and with her colleague was awarded the Elizabeth Campbell Award for Excellence in the Arts in Arlington Public Schools by the American Association of University Women – Arlington Branch for their work on Swanson’s musical. In the Spring 2012, Mrs. Pierce directed the Arlington County Middle School Honors Chorus.

Mrs. Pierce holds a Masters of Arts in Teaching in Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music and in Anthropology from The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. She is working towards her DMA in Music Education from Boston University, focusing her research on inclusive music education.

During her undergraduate studies, Mrs. Pierce sang with the William and Mary Choir, The Botetourt Chamber Singers, The Early Music Ensemble, and the a cappella group Common Ground.  She was a founding member of Spotlight Show Choir, and directed Common Ground her junior and senior years. She was a member and officer of Delta Omicron Music Honor Fraternity, and the soprano section leader for the Canterbury Choir at the historic Bruton Parrish.

Mrs. Pierce is a member of the Virginia Music Educators Association, The National Association for Music Educators, and the American Choral Director’s Association. She frequently sings in and around the DC area, and serves as a clinician and guest conductor. In her spare time, Mrs. Pierce likes to run, attend concerts, and enjoys time at home with her two young children, husband, and cat.
